You Met Me There

Writer's picture: Ashley BrownAshley Brown

You met me on the floor, where I hid demons in my head.

I was struggling with my pride; I was scared I had disappointed you again.

I landed on my knees; there you saw me as I lay.

Uncovering my dignity, I lay bare my darkest despairs.

How did you uncover me, how did you see my hidden tares?

I’m afraid to show my face outside of the dark room’s covering, yet you seem not to care.

My heaviest sob story, my vulnerability tricking my mind into pure anguish.

You met me there. You saw me coming, and you met me there.

You’ve taken the heavy and made light of my disguise.

You loved me when the vile couldn’t be compromised.

When you heard my tears leave their sacred ducts, you met me at the place where they fell.

As I cried out, You, Lord, heard me. Like a Psalm, you attended the voice of my prayer.

Your mercy and your compassion encompassed my fear.

I cried and you heard me. I longed and you fulfilled my needs. I enslaved myself in anxiety and you delivered my soul.

What glory and what honor I owe you.

For your abounding love, forgiveness, and abundant compassion, I thank you, My Lord.
